dc.description.abstracten	In the article the author states that the Ukrainian Greco Catholic Church under the Soviet communist regime and religious persecutions in the second half of the XX century continued to thrive through the believers’ faithfulness and persistent resistance to the state’s antireligious ideology and abolition of their Church. The Greek-Catholics succeeded in containing the continuity of bishops and clergy, practiced their faith in many different forms, showing both accommodation and resistance. Thus the UGCC successfully defied the religious policy of a Soviet communist superpower intent on its annihilation, and intensified public movement for State recognition and legalization in the 1980s, which was finally achieved at the end of the year 1989.	uk
