dc.description.abstract	У статті проаналізовано досвід перекладу і коментування античних джерел. Об’єктом дослідження обрано відомий твір Лукіана «Як писати історію». Розглянуто основні методологічні підходи до коментування античних текстів, серед яких автори називають націленість на адресата і на тип коментованого тексту. Враховуючи типологічні ознаки тексту Лукіана — іронічність і пародійність — що загалом характерні для епохи занепаду античної культури в часи пізнього еллінізму, автори поділяють думку, що коментар до такого типу тексту має служити негайному вирішенню інтерпретаційних завдань. Особливу увагу приділено проблемам перекладу і коментування стилістично маркованих елементів тексту і термінів, а також аналізу проблеми історичної істини, що від часів Лукіана не втратила своєї актуальності та залишається ключовою і в новітній історіографії. Стаття містить також вичерпний огляд українських перекладів творів античної історіографії.	uk

dc.description.abstracten	The article presents the experience of translating and commenting of ancient texts. The research object is the well-known work of Lucian: «How to Write History». Justifying the importance of the subject for Ukrainian humanities and translation studies, the authors offer in the first part of the paper a brief overview of Ukrainian translations of works of ancient historiography, occasionally analyzing the scholarly apparatus and quality of historical and literary comments accompanying the editions of these texts. The main part of the paper considers methodological approaches tocommenting of ancient texts. Considering the specifics of ancient historiographical material the authors identify among these approaches two major ones. The first approach is defined by focusingon the reader. If we discuss the translation of ancient historiographical sources, the contemporary recipient of such literary material necessarily reckons with an audience of specialists, although differing in their particular levels of qualifications — ranging from a student to a professional scholar. Therefore, comments on such texts have to be specialized and not require explanations of various issues, rather, such that can be combined by the concept "loci communes". Respect for the reader and credibility in his educational background will restrain the commentator from making unnecessary interpretations relating to famous historical figures or mytological phenomena. However, focusing on the educated reader of translations involves a special thoughtful approach to the use of terms in literary texts. For historiographical works such kind of terms are titles of goverment officials, military officials, geographic names, terms for weapons and military fortifications. Because Lucian was a professional orator his approach to writing history was mainly rhetorical and he used terms from the scope of logic, rhetorics and poetics. The translation of such terms often require historical and philological investigation and therefore need historical and philological commentary. Defining methodological approaches to the comments, authors consider another important aspect related to the explanation of Lotman’s statement, that comment depends on the type of commented text. Lucian's writing has it’s own specific features, such as irony and parody, which is typical for the age of decline of antiquity in the late hellenistic period. In considering that fact the authorsalso share the opinion that the comment on such type of text should serve as an immediate solution to the problems of interpretation. Moreover, a comment to an ancient text involves updating a possible dialogue with the ideas of the commented text. For those who are interested in the analysis of historiography as a cultural practice, Lucian's treatise is definitely an interesting and valuable resource. That is why the comment to his work should have two main emphases: to aim to place Lucian’s work within the contemporary literary culture and to place it within the dominant contemporary trends in history as well.	uk
